The Zinfandel First Responder Training Facility Phase 3 Buildout marks a transformative investment in community protection, firefighter readiness, and regional collaboration.
Designed as an advanced, all-risk training environment, the facility delivers immersive, scenario-based instruction that mirrors the realities of emergency response. A dedicated Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC), along with versatile indoor and outdoor classroom spaces, supports hands-on, practical learning.
Modern architectural features further enhance the facility, equipping Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department personnel with the tools needed to refine essential skills while safeguarding their health and safety.
As a regional training hub, the facility also strengthens partnerships across surrounding agencies—expanding access to high-quality instruction and elevating preparedness throughout the greater Sacramento area.

Challenge
In addition to the design of unique firefighting simulated conditions and the need for flexible space, the project faced expiring funding that created the need for an accelerated schedule.
Approach
Our team helped lead the Sacramento Metro Fire Department through their first Design-Build acquisition by collaborating with the Design-Build Team to develop a realistic schedule that supported project success and secured funding.
Impact
The Phase 3 buildout expands the region’s ability to train firefighters in realistic, high risk scenarios, improving response effectiveness and community safety. The addition of the training facility boosts operational readiness while reducing dependence on outdated or offsite facilities. As a regional hub, the site enhances interagency coordination and ensures consistent, high quality training across partner agencies.
